Kashi Company

Kashi Company is an all-natural foods company founded in October 1984 by Philip and Gayle Tauber. Kashi was purchased by Kellogg Company in 2000 and is operated as an independent business unit in La Jolla, California.
Kashi specializes in all-natural (not to be confused with Organic food) breakfast cereals, nutrition bars, crackers, frozen waffles, frozen entrées and pizzas, and other snack foods. The company's products contain their proprietary blend of seven whole grains and sesame (which they call Kashi) and no artificial ingredients. The grains are: Hard Red Winter Wheat, Oats, Rye, Barley, Triticale, Long Grain Brown Rice, and Buckwheat, along with Sesame Seeds. Kashi's products emphasize their high protein and fiber content.
The company's name was chosen by combining "kashrut" (kosher) with "Kushi" the last name of Michio and Aveline Kushi, credited with bringing the modern macrobiotic diet to the United States. It is not, therefore, related in any way to the Japanese word for "snack".
